Ayahuasca Sacred Valley Peru

If you are seeking to take Ayahuasca in a traditional ceremony in Peru, you will most probably end up in The Sacred Valley of Cusco or in Iquitos. Ayahuasca is used traditionally in Peru, and Iquitos and the Sacred Valley are the Tibet of Peru in the spiritual sense, where Ayahuasca has been used by different ethnic groups for generations. Practitioners use Ayahuasca in various ceremonies in order to enable spiritual growth as well as strengthen community bonds as a family. In addition, the Peruvian Government has recognized Ayahuasca in Peru as a cultural heritage therefore; it is legally used all over the country.

Sacred Valley for a Retreat

The Ayahuasca Ceremony

An Ayahuasca ceremony follows the same steps in all the ethnic groups in the Amazon and in a regular retreat center, the ceremonies are always led by a Native Ayahuasca Shaman who is the spiritual leader. The ceremony is held indoors in a typical native maloka (ceremonial room, resembling a small wooden hut), during the ceremony the shaman performs different healing Icaros, melodies of the Ayahuasca spirit, and other medicinal plants, Icaros accompany the ceremony. At a retreat, you may find other participants like you, who will go through the same physical, and emotional expressions that the Ayahuasca produces, try to be with the shaman’s Icaros, and do not entertain with negative thoughts, an ayahuasca experience can exceed all understanding, the ceremony takes 4 to 5 hours.

Making a Decision

Before participating in a retreat, you will have to ask yourself whether you are ready or not if you have the perseverance and will need it. If you are thinking of an exotic experience out of an interest in other cultures, probably going to The Sacred Valley will enrich this experience. Going to remote places in the Amazon jungle to do an Ayahuasca retreat in a community, might be the cheapest option and the most authentic environment, but this does not mean this is safer. Conditions might be more adapted to the needs of participants foreigners in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Risks

Ayahuasca is not for everyone, aside from the general precautions, please take into account that participants with heart or mental conditions should not take Ayahuasca due to their delicate state. Although incidents are rare, participants who are under strong antidepressants or drugs like cocaine shall wait until there are completely cleansed of any chemical substance, most of the incidents that happened were due to the mixture of the brew with these substances.
